What does the Qur'an say?
- Surah Al-Imran (3:45–49)
Angels say: "O Maryam, Allah gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Isa, son of Maryam—honored in this world and the Hereafter." Born of a virgin, speaks in cradle, creates bird from clay by Allah's leave, heals blind/leper, raises dead.
- Surah An-Nisa (4:171)
"The Messiah, Isa, son of Maryam, was only a messenger of Allah and His Word (Kalimatuhu) which He directed to Maryam and a spirit (Ruh) from Him."
- Surah Maryam (19:16–35)
Conception by the Spirit, miraculous birth under palm tree, sign for humanity and mercy from God.
